The Main Attractions of Jakarta
The Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta is the largest in South East Asia and is located not far from the Presidential Palace where the former Dutch Governor-Generals have resided. From there, the Monas Monument, a landmark of the city marked by a flame made of real gold. Towards the North is the China Town with its congested business streets of the old Jakarta. Located there, the Fatahillah Square with three museums: the Jakarta Museum---renovated from the old town hall; the Puppet Museum and the Art Gallery and Ceramics Museum.
Scattered around Jakarta are temples, mosques and buildings to be visited. Some still reflect the heritage of Batavia (old Jakarta). Taman Mini Indonesia Indah---"The Beautiful Indonesian Garden" is an extensive park representing diversity in Indonesia. All of the 26 provinces are represented with customs, dresses and traditional houses on display.
As any other metropolitan cities in the world, Jakarta is bounded with shopping malls. It's been over half a decade since "The Mall"---a catch-phrase that has become synonymous with fashion, branded goods and luxury items---has mushroomed and spread in a frenzy all over the city. If you feel like going on a shopping spree or even just window shopping, know exactly where to go for your needs. There's always a mall or two conveniently located near your area.
